Hi Brenda
A light misting with any grooming spray should help (or even just water in a spray bottle) Another thing that helps is a quick going over with a slicker brush before combing. I prefer brushing first to soften the coat out, I just feel if you stick a comb straight in it’s more painful because it catches on knots. A good conditioner helps too

Hi……. also something like bio groom coat polish which helps to brush out but also when the dog is bathed the polish makes the coat so slippery you can groom out knots in the shower. I find a mixture of good preparation with a grooming detangler spray before going in the bath and then using something like Dezynadogs Dematt Balsam (brilliant stuff) is a must. The tangles and knots can be gently combed out and any remaining ones just slicker out when being dried. Plus it leaves the coat slippy so knots cannot be so easily formed next time. Worth a try. Good Luck. Toppknotts, Norfolk.
Groomers do an Intensive Detangling Spray that is wonderful. Also look at the type of brush you are using. Les Pooches do a brilliant range altho expensive but i don’t use anything else in the salon now. They make brushing and detangling much easier and are worth the money.
Work from the outside edge of the knot and make sure you hold it between your fingers to avoid damaging the skin.
There are several tricks and tips but at the end of the day it still comes down to good old fashioned elbow grease

WOW detangler from Jodimurphy.net.. NOTHING works as good as this stuff does.. Also a Matzapper from Le Pooche… I like to loosen things up a bit before the bath…then finish dematting in the tub… prior to drying I spray with WOW detanger and force dry.. the mats just seem to disappear!
